Environmental Monitoring
Monitoring environmental conditions in equipment rooms is critical when looking at safeguarding not only the availability of the equipment but also safeguarding the investment made in the equipment.
Temperature monitoring is recommended for early detection of failing air conditioning units. Such failures can cause rapid deterioration and prompt action is a must. With the remote reboot devices users can immediately shut down equipment or even remotely start a secondary AC unit.
Humidity monitoring is a must. Too high humidity results in . When humidity is too low, then static electricity may be build up with the risk of a discharge damaging equipment.
Water in BTS and equipment rooms can result from leaking AC units, leaks in the roof or from convential floods. The earlier one is alerted the better.
Power System
65% of failures in BTS sites is power related. To reduce risks of downtime operators are looking at solutions to monitor power. One can monitor batteries, UPS systems, rectifier output, mains to ensure continuity of power in the shelter. Power Systems offer those monitoring capabilities. Typical vendors of such systems are Emerson and Eltek Valere. As they are SNMP based, ServersCheck integrates with them almost off the shelf. The BTS Monitoring Appliance will read the values from the Emerson or Eltek Valere systems and compare them to treshold values defined. In the event the link is down, ServersCheck will still be able to alert you using its patent pending alerting solution.
For operators not having such a power monitoring system, ServersCheck can offer third party systems. Those systems enable to monitor following:
- Monitor Inputs of 3 DC ports and 2 AC: DC (2x 0-40 VDC, 1 36-60 VDC) and AC (12/240)
- Dry contact for monitoring breaker trip
- Dry contacts for monitoring security sensors (2 ports)

This diagram outlines how the ServersCheck BTS Monitoring Appliance integrates with PSEM solutions. For customers not having any solution in place yet, ServersCheck can offer RS232 sensors for monitoring temperature, humidity, flooding and IP based solution to monitor dry contacts as well as power sources. The integration is native for the environmental sensors; SNMP based for the security sensors (Smoke, Motion, Door).
Already have a PSEM in place? Almost all current PSEM systems are SNMP enabled. ServersCheck can read those systems and compare them against tresholds defined in the appliance. When there is a network outage or the uplink is down, then ServersCheck can send the nature of the issue to the NOC. This has the tremendous benefit that engineers are informed of the nature of the failure. Typically in the event of an outage, a field engineer has to go on site to assess the situation and often plan a second intervention visit to fix the issue. With ServersCheck one may know the nature of the issue right away.

Huawei E180v or E1662 capable modem for alerting via SMS
Other modems such as from ZTE, Nokia, Zoom, Novatel Wireless and Falcom may work too. Please contact us for modem hardware certification. |
| Optional Switch |
| A local network (LAN) is required when communicating with 3rd PSEM systems over SNMP or when using the Power Site Monitoring solution suggested by ServersCheck. If no LAN is available, then one can be created by including a DIN rail mount switch. |
