BTS Monitoring FAQ

This FAQ is compiled to provide quick answers on questions commonly received. However we fully realize that not all questions & answers may be covered here. In that case don't hesitate to contact us.

Q: How does ServersCheck compare to BTS monitoring solutions from Nokia, Ericsson, Alcatel, Nortel, ... ?

A: ServersCheck doesn't compete against these solutions. We complement them. Those existing solutions are geared towards monitoring the equipment from an engineering point of view: antenna strength, radio communications, etc... ServersCheck doesn't monitor that. What it does is monitoring the availability of the systems (IP based), the conditions in which the systems run (environmental), the power usage (PDU) and the most important one: mobile phone service experience from an end-user perspective (voice, SMS & Data). On top of that it can take remote corrective actions such as performing cold reboots, executing a script... It has optional sensors to monitor the environment (temperature, humidity, power and water) and physical security (motion, door contact, smoke)

Q: How does ServersCheck communicate and integrate with the HQ operations?

A: If the BTS is connected with the HQ through a TCP/IP connection, then the appliance sits inside the LAN of the BTS and can send alerts over TCP/IP using SNMP Traps to the NMS platform (Tivoli, OpenView, ...) running at the HQ. If there is no TCP/IP connection (for example E1 or satellite connectivity), then the software communicates via SMS with the HQ's NOC.

Q: Do I need to include the ServersCheck solution in the design of my BTS?

A: No. Almost any existing BTS station can be retrofitted to accomodate the ServersCheck BTS Monitoring Appliance. The only requirement is a power outlet for the Appliance. If you want to use its built-in NMS features, then the BTS Monitoring Appliance is plugged into the local LAN of the BTS. However this is not a requirement.

Q: Does the ServersCheck BTS Monitoring Appliance require an increase of power usage to the BTS?

A: No. The BTS Monitoring Appliance is a green device utilizing only 15W of power when running at full speed. This very low power usage enables it to run in existing environments without much modifications.

Q: How proven is the technology behind the ServersCheck BTS Monitoring Appliance?

A: The BTS Monitoring Appliance has been designed based on our award winning Monitoring Software and Monitoring Appliance. ServersCheck has been making software and hardware for monitoring server rooms for the past 6 years. Based on a customer's requirement, we have modified our existing Monitoring Appliance for server rooms to a model that would fit in rougher environments and added additional layers of intelligence into it.

Q: What is the warranty on those devices?

A: The BTS Monitoring Appliance comes with a 1 year warranty, software upgrades and support. Optional waranty extensions are available.

Q: What is the Minimum Order Quantity (MoQ)?

A: The BTS Monitoring Appliance is available per batch of 100 units.
